SCBI – Sportfishing Club of the British Isles
How often after hours of patient ‘surfing’ do you encounter a site that looks vaguely promising only to discover those dreaded words ‘Site under Construction’.
I’m afraid this is one of those for which I would offer my sincere apologies. You (for ‘you’ read ‘me’) start off with the best of intentions, construct the outline and then find that you’re desperately short on content. Not the case here. Given the pressures of the day job it’s very much a case of trying to fit everything in. And unfortunately it’s always our site’s construction that suffers.
To save it dragging on any further though I’ve put together some key sections that should prove of interest both to Club members and ‘surfing’ anglers. I hope then to be able to construct the remaining sections during the first half of 2004.
So what is there currently? For Club members, but also accessible by fellow anglers, there’s our record lists, together with details of World records establish by Club members. For a Club of just over 100 members though the lists make impressive reading. Singling out a few – there’re Sailfish to over 140lbs, Tarpon over 200, double-figured Bonefish, 60lb plus Roosterfish and 300lb plus Swordfish. Also from the UK Bass to over 15lbs.
Then there’re the World records established by Club members – over 70 in total in all line classes from 2 to 130lb test, plus several on fly tackle. That’s some 23 species – 4 from Freshwater and 19 from Saltwater. They include species like Nile Perch, Blue Marlin, several Shark species, Roosterfish and Wahoo (both on fly) and, from this country, Cod and Conger.
There’s an information section identifying Club members fish captures and assorted news and anecdotes that you may find of interest. This will be updated regularly. Also there’s a section on ‘Forums’ – an excellent way to interact with other anglers. And a range of useful web addresses. Non-members can also acquire back issues of our annually produced Club magazine - British Sportfisherman.
Then, and this is only available for Club members and is password protected, there’s an area where individuals can post requests for information, details of trips they’re organising, tackle wanted, tackle for sale, order Club merchandise, etc.
Together with this there’s in depth details of fishing venues our members have visited. The notes identify the fishing seasons, travel arrangements, recommended skippers, size of fish taken and, in all cases, details of who’s fished there. You can then contact them separately for further information.
